Program:

»Schmücke dich, o liebe Seele« BWV 654, Toccata und Fuge in d BWV 565

The Arp Schnitger Festival without a recital in Cappel? Unthinkable! After all, the instrument that has been here for 201 years (although originally built for St. John’s Cloister Church in Hamburg in 1680) is regarded today as the best-preserved instrument of all of the remaining Schnitger organs. Masato Suzuki, the son of Masaaki Suzuki born in the Netherlands in 1981, is highly sought as a conductor, organist, harpsichordist and composer worldwide. Moreover, he has been a permanent member of the Bach Collegium Japan since 2002 and regularly performs as a harpsichordist and organist in their concerts and recordings. He certainly has good reason for selecting masterpieces by Buxtehude and Bach for his recital in Cappel; after all, Schnitger was for both composers the creator of instruments that ideally matched their visions of organ music.
