Programme:
Georg Friedrich Händel: Overture, March and Arias of Cesare from the Opera »Giulio Cesare in Egitto« HWV 17
as well as Instrumental works of Antonio Vivaldi, Arcangelo Corelli, Georg Philipp Telemann and others

He holds a prominent position among the countertenors on world’s international stages: Bejun Mehta. The American singer with the full voice of warm timbre has more to offer than just his virtuosic technical skills; he always delves deeply into the abyss of his characters. »Intensity is more important to me than beautiful sound,« he says himself. And so in his interpretations he communicates the most widely diversified nuances of emotions so grippingly and authentically that he pierces the hearts of his audiences. His repertoire spans a tremendous range, but one composer has been a part of Mehta’s career for years: Handel. Even before he sings the title role in the composer’s »Giulio Cesare in Egitto« at Milan’s La Scala in autumn 2019, he will present a magnificent condensation of the role. The La Folia Baroque Orchestra stands for a vital and thrilling style of music-making that basks in the glories of baroque sound as well as in precisely detailed depiction of even the smallest affect. Their partnership with Bejun Mehta guarantees a vibrant and inspired rendition of the Roman ruler’s experiences in Egypt!
