Saturday , 31.08.19 - 7:00 pm

Jules Buckley, Music Festival Award co-winner with the Metropole Orkest in 2018, and the orchestra’s Big Band will this year be taking care of the »Overseas« Night — once again with outstanding soloists, of course! The young American singer Jazzmeia Horn, nominated for a Grammy in 2018 for her début album entitled »A Social Call«, is already being compared with great names such as Betty Carter, Sarah Vaughan or Nancy Wilson. In the first set, she is part of the Big Band’s homage to the legendary album »Moanin« with the jazz drummer Art Blakey that appeared 60 years ago. During the second set, she will share the stage with José James. The singer from Minneapolis has a supple baritone voice that is unequalled in terms of versatility and strength of expression. He mentions Prince, David Bowie, A Tribe Called Quest or Mos Def alongside Herbie Hancock and John Coltrane as his inspiring models. This group of artists, who are all eager to experiment, logically enough guarantees yet another thrilling »Overseas« Night that will be enhanced even further by the Dutch musicians with the opulent big-band sound!
