Programme:
»Monteverdis Muse – a musically portrait of Caterina Martinelli«: works by Claudio Monteverdi, Giulio Caccini and

Marco da Gagliano

The vocal ensemble Voces Suaves from Basel traces the footsteps of Caterina Martinelli (1589–1608), Monteverdi’s muse, with finely differentiated expression, variability in sound painting and a full sound that is nevertheless clear as a bell. Acclaimed at the Gonzaga court in Mantua, she died of smallpox before reaching the age of 19 — and continues to live down to the present day in some of the composer’s most poignant works.
