With almost two hundred years of history, the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra has left its mark on north-west German musical life with its wide range of concert and music theatre performances. Its General Music Directors have included illustrious names such as Hans von Bülow, Marcello Viotti, Markus Poschner and, since the 2018/19 concert season, Marko Letonja. No less impressive is the list of guest conductors, which includes Karl Böhm and Eugen Jochum as well as the composers Paul Hindemith and Johannes Brahms, the latter of whom conducted the world premiere of his German Requiem in Bremen. Today, the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra can be heard almost every day: in philharmonic concerts, opera performances, cross-over projects, chamber music evenings, charity events and promoting young musicians. Internationally renowned soloists such as Frank Peter Zimmermann, Marc-André Hamelin and Isabelle van Keulen have been guests of the orchestra, as well as conductors Carlos Kalmar, Mikhail Agrest and Michael Schønwandt.

The orchestra is ideally equipped for future endeavours at their new location in the newly developed Tabakquartier Bremen, which they moved into in 2022, and they are looking forward to their 200th anniversary season in 2024/25.
