Georg Nigl always enthrals audiences and the press alike with his passionate and authentic performances, be it his acclaimed Wozzeck at La Scala in Milan, Rihm’s Lenz in Brussels and Berlin, or his rendition of Bach Cantatas with Luca Pianca. His deep and comprehensive exploration of all the works he performs, his close affinity to spoken theatre and the associated emphasis on text and rhetoric, as well as his impressive acting skills on stage, have made Georg Nigl one of the world’s most acclaimed baritones. He has appeared at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, the Berlin State Opera, the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam and the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, as well as at festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, the Ruhrtriennale and the Wiener Festwochen.

Georg Nigl's chamber music repertoire covers a broad range from baroque to the First Viennese School to contemporary music - developed and performed together with Alexander Melnikov, Gérard Wyss and Luca Pianca. His 2020 album »Vanitas« with Beethoven’s »An die ferne Geliebte«, selected songs by Franz Schubert and Wolfgang Rihm’s »Vermischter Traum« was honoured with the 2021 German Record Critics’ Award. Performed at the Musikfest Bremen in 2022, the »Vanitas« concert captivated the audience in the Great Hall of the Glocke. The spring of 2023 saw the release of »Echo«, with songs and ballads by Schubert, Loewe, Schumann and Wolf, which received high praise by the press. The »Nachtmusiken«, a serenade cycle conceived by Georg Nigl, was one of the highlights of the 2023 Salzburg Festival, leading to a continuation of the intimate chamber music format this year.
