True to the German saying »Abschied ist ein scharfes Schwert« (»parting is a sharp sword«), many a parting is associated with despair, grief, anger, longing or rage. The world of opera is no exception. Often, saying goodbye before the imminent separation or approaching death cannot be delayed, but let’s forget about that! The pain and uncertainty of ever seeing each other again are such strong emotions that logic can be left out of the equation. Whether lovers, friends, siblings, rulers or loyal servants, all say »Addio amore« passionately, wistfully, tearfully or with fiery vows. Some of the most touching farewell duets from Italian baroque operas for soprano and alto will be vivdly brought to life by Jeanine De Bique and Terry Wey. Accompanied by the Kammerorchester Basel, the colour-rich voices of the Trinidadian soprano and the Swiss-American countertenor will go between embracing each other in comforting caresses to competing in fiery coloraturas.
