After the end of the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648), the trading cities on the Baltic Sea experienced a cultural heyday thanks to strong economic growth. For music, it was a time of fearless innovation, sparkling creativity and bold experimentation - with Danish-born Dieterich Buxtehude a key figure. Whether Copenhagen, Helsingør, Lübeck, Danzig or Riga, musical and intellectual activity flourished everywhere. Influenced by Italian music, a new type of church music with its own distinct identity emerged in the still young Protestant church. Concerto Copenhagen, Scandinavia's leading early music ensemble, and its artistic director Lars Ulrik Mortensen provide an insight into the inventive and imaginative music of this period - with the Schnitger organ in the Findorff Church. When the dark, warm timbre of the bass-baritone Jakob Bloch Jespersen rings out in sacred solo cantatas, the wealth of early baroque music from the Baltic is given new, utterly fascinating life!
