Maurice Ravel: »La Valse«
Edvard Grieg: Piano Concerto in A minor op. 16

The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra is steeped in tradition: founded in 1765, it is one of Europe's top orchestras. Edward Gardner has been its chief conductor since 2015, and the FAZ recently attested that he is »a new heavyweight among British conductors«. Under his baton, the orchestra lets the sounds of their homeland flourish with Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto, with its dance-like Nordic melodies. The soloist is the acclaimed Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, whose virtuoso interpretations burst with passion and intellectual curiosity. Maurice Ravel's demonic, orgiastic »La Valse«, composed in 1920, not only carries us away into the bliss of the waltz, but also to the downfall of the Viennese monarchy - a timelessly modern dance on the edge of an abyss with a breathtaking conclusion!
