Anton Bruckner: Symphony No. 7 in E major WAB 107

With an extremely wide-ranging repertoire from the Renaissance to the present, Pablo Heras-Casado, born in Granada in 1977, is one of the most versatile conductors of our time – and one of the most adventurous. After tackling music by Beethoven, Mendelssohn, Schubert, Schumann and Brahms with several historically informed ensembles, he developed the desire to perform Anton Bruckner on period instruments with the Belgian orchestra Anima Eterna Brugge. A perfect musical partnership emerged, since Anima Eterna Brugge has exemplified bridging the gap between authentic historical work and lively performance practice since its foundation. Regular guests at the Musikfest since 1996, Anima Eterna Brugge has already delighted audiences with works from Viennese Classicism to Romanticism and Johann Strauss – and now Bruckner! With his seventh symphony, the composer celebrated his greatest triumph to date. Hermann Levi, who performed it in Munich a few months after the Leipzig premiere in 1884, called it "the most important work since Beethoven's death". To this day, the Seventh is Bruckner's most-performed symphony and one of the greatest masterpieces of the Classical era - the perfect challenge for Pablo Heras-Casado and Anima Eterna Brugge!
