Muzio Clementi: Piano Sonata in G minor op. 34/2, “Preludio alla Haydn” and “Preludio alla Mozart” from “Characteristic Music” op. 19
Joseph Haydn: Piano Sonata in C sharp minor Hob. XVI:36
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Fantasie in C minor K. 475
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piana Sonata in F minor WoO 47 No. 2

Haydn, Clementi, Mozart and Beethoven – on the threshold between Viennese Classicism and Romanticism, they were the ones who greatly advanced the development of piano music. But each of these composers has been judged differently by posterity, despite the high regard they all enjoyed during their lifetime. While Mozart and Beethoven are sublime genius to this day, Haydn sometimes struggles to shed off the cliché of the well-behaved bore. And Clementi? He never quite recovered from Mozart accusing him of being a charlatan on the one hand, and the unfortunate role he played in the minds generations of piano students who had to practice the sonatinas he composed for beginners on the other. So it's high time that an exceptional pianist like Alexander Melnikov intervened to rehabilitate them – on a fortepiano built by Lagrassa in 1815 as befits the selection of works! This guarantees an immensely varied and sensitive approach to every detail, resulting in exciting new interpretations full of contrasts. In the picturesque ambience of Jagdschloss Clemenswerth a piano recital which promises to do away with many a prejudice awaits you.
