Chamber music in large and unusual combinations of instruments - that is the speciality of the Franz Ensemble, which was formed around musicians of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen. Their changing formation allows for a wide spectrum of possible instrumentations and, in addition to the standard repertoire, they also dedicate themselves to new works and unjustly forgotten treasures. For example, Louise Farrenc's Piano Quintet, composed in 1840 in the classical-romantic style. Its rather unconventional instrumentation of piano, violin, viola, violoncello and double bass underlines the originality of the French pianist and composer. Another pearl of the chamber music repertoire is Ernst von Dohnányi's Sextet from 1935, with its profound feeling for rich timbres and surprising, almost jazzy finale. Johannes Motschmann's (*1978) octet, created with the help of artificial intelligence (AI), promises a completely different kind of surprise. The central idea of his work is to combine the parts he composed himself with the music developed by the AI in such a way that the different styles flow into each other with ease and the transitions become virtually imperceptible ...
