Program:
Jacques Offenbach: »Les Contes d’Hoffmann« (concertante)

Cast change:
Due to short-term changes of rehearsals and recording dates in a production, for which he was already committed before the engagement at Musikfest Bremen, the French tenor Benjamin Bernheim unfortunately is forced to resign from his obligation as Hoffmann. At his place, the title role will now be interpreted by Leonardo Capalbo.
Soprano Aleksandra Kurzak asked for personal reasons to be released from her engagement in Offenbach's »Les Contes d'Hoffmann«. At her place, the four soprano parts in the opera will now be interpreted by Jessica Pratt.

When it comes to the music of Jacques Offenbach, Marc Minkowski and his Musiciens du Louvre are simply in their element! They eloquently proved that most recently at the Music Festival 2012 with their »Offenbach Gala« as well as with their many recordings that have set the benchmark in the genre. Now, the French maestro presents his perspective of the composer’s only serious opera, which focuses on the poet E.T.A Hoffmann as the prototype of the romantic artist with all his ideas, doubts, crises and amorous adventures. Although unfinished, »Les Contes d’Hoffmann« has remained one of the most popular works of music theatre down to the present, a bizarre-fantastic masterpiece. Minkowski, who believes it was Offenbach’s intention for each of the four-part roles to be played by the same artist throughout the opera, will carefully maintain the delicate balance between lightness and inscrutability and make it a deeply moving experience!
