She is one of the shining new stars in the firmament of the vibrant London jazz scene: Jas Kayser. Growing up in the South West of England, she discovered the drums at the age of eleven. After training in London, she attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and studied with Terri Lyne Carrington, Danilo Pérez, Ralph Peterson and Neal Smith. In addition to performing with these mentors, she expanded her musical horizons alongside greats such as Lenny Kravitz, Nubya Garcia, Shabaka Hutchings, Alfa Mist and Jorja Smith. A drummer, bandleader and composer, she recently released the highly acclaimed debut album »Jas 5ive« with her own collective Jas Kayser & Chums: with her rousing drumming at its core, it is a mixture of jazz, Afrobeat and Latin influences that also touches on themes like migration, identity and self-discovery. No doubt: In her you will discover an exciting new trendsetter for modern drumming, who is at the same time also committed to changing the way women are perceived in jazz!
