Frédéric Chopin: 4 Mazurkas Op. 41, Scherzo No. 3 in C sharp minor Op. 39, Barcarolle Op. 60, Polonaise-Fantaisie Op. 61
Sergei Rachmaninoff: 4 Préludes Op. 23, Piano Sonata No. 2 in B flat minor Op. 36

Last year, she thrilled both the audience and the press with her Musikfest-debut at the closing concert with Teodor Currentzis and the SWR Symphony Orchestra: Yulianna Avdeeva. Grounds enough to invite the Moscow-born pianist, who has long since made Munich her home, for a piano recital. She first came to the attention of the hanseatic city in 2003, when she won 2nd prize in the Bremen piano contest. Her international breakthrough followed in 2010, when she was the first Russian and only the fourth woman ever (the previous one being Martha Argerich in 1965) to win the prestigious Chopin contest in Warsaw. With her irresistible combination of virtuosity, clarity, energy and elegance, she creates magical music full of poetry without the need for superficial pomp and showmanship. And so Yulianna Avdeeva is a compelling storyteller at the grand piano, who seems to be made for the musical world of Chopin and Rachmaninov. The result? Highly expressive interpretations ranging from profound intimacy to grand emotions – simply electrifying.
