Programme:
Joseph Haydn: Piano Sonata No. 34 in E minor Hob. XVI:34
Maurice Ravel: Menuet sur le nom de Haydn, »Miroirs«
Robert Schumann: Symphonic Etudes op. 13 (instead of the works by Franz Liszt originally announced in the festival programme)

After winning third place at both the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv, winning the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 2015 marked the definitive international breakthrough for Korean pianist Seong-Jin Cho. But winning competitions is one thing; firmly establishing oneself in Europe is another. »Building a career here when you come from Korea is not that easy. The competition is insanely strong. Add to that that this is where classical music was born. You have to be something very special. Or simply better.« Born in Seoul in 1994 and for some years now resident of Berlin, the artist has in any case cemented his reputation as one of the most talented and interesting pianists of his generation. Critics constantly attest to his remarkable maturity and versatile playing style, making his interpretations both deeply thoughtful and brimming with creative inspiration. For his Bremen debut, Cho will present works by Haydn, Mozart, Liszt and Ravel – beautifully bridging Viennese Classicism to Romanticism and French Impressionism!
