Carl Maria von Weber: Overture from Der Freischütz, Op. 77
Robert Schumann: Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54
Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 68

With his opera »Der Freischütz«, Carl Maria von Weber was proclaimed the founder of romantic German opera. Robert Schumann's brilliantly arranged piano concerto became regarded as the epitome of the romantic piano concerto par excellence. Now the young Johannes Brahms was expected to prove that the symphony could be developed further after Beethoven! In 1853, when Brahms was only 20, an almost messianic sounding Schumann heralded him as the composer of the future. But Brahms struggled many years and required more than 20 years of preparation before his first symphony was finally premiered in 1876 ... These three masterpieces of the Romantic era are waiting to be rediscovered at the festival finale. With the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi and the British conductor Robin Ticciati, a world-class cast comes together. As cultural ambassadors, they represent the best of Europe and want to prove once again that the music of the great masters can still deeply affect us and touch us to the core!
