Vox Luminis - the voice of light - is not only the name of the Belgian ensemble founded in 2004, it is also the essence of their brand. It was the sound of bright radiance that he always had in mind, says ensemble leader Lionel Meunier. Their crystal-clear voices, impeccable intonation and perfect homogeneity have delivered vocal art at its best to audiences the world over for years. So why not sing a direct praise to the power of music? Handel makes this possibe with his Ode for St. Cecilia's Day from 1739, a colourful homage to the patron saint of music. Bach's Magnificat in E-flat major on the other hand, was written in 1723 during his first year as Thomaskantor in Leipzig. With a choir and soloists as well as a festive baroque instrumentation, it was probably his most ambitious and virtuosic vocal composition to date, his calling card, so to speak, for his new office. Vox Luminis in turn - another special feature! - do not need a conductor for this: Lionel Meunier acts as »primus inter pares« and leads the performance while singing bass.
