The trio Mammal Hands from Norwich in the East of England have earned a reputation for having developed a refreshingly original, individual sound with the albums they have released to date. Inspired by artists such as Pharoah Sanders, Gétatchèw Mèkurya, Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Sirishkumar Manji, they combine jazz with Sufi and shamanic meditative music, Irish and Eastern European folklore as well as minimalism and contemporary electronica. The artists’ unique sound is achieved through long improvised rehearsals, which aim to create a powerful group dynamic. In this way, they develop fascinating soundscapes that are sometimes meditative and celestial, sometimes energetic and majestic, and become all the more alluring through repetition.
