Monday , 28.08.23 - 8:00 pm

Programme:
Robert Schumann: Overture to the dramatic poem »Manfred« op. 115, Piano Concerto in A minor op. 54
Johannes Brahms: Symphony No. 3 in F major op. 90

Founded in 1997 by former members of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra quickly established itself as one of the world's most renowned chamber orchestras. Today, it is impossible to imagine the international music scene without its touring projects, which take place several times a year. Alongside Claudio Abbado, Daniel Harding has helped shape the orchestra from its inception and is now its honorary conductor. Daniil Trifonov, one of the most fascinating pianists of our time, has had a close association with the ensemble for years. He combines astonishing precision, a supreme sound and demonic virtuosity - as if he were made for Robert Schumann's only piano concerto, which was premiered by his wife Clara in 1845. In 1853, the Schumanns made the acquaintance of and came to admire the 20-year-old Johannes Brahms. After Schumann's death in 1856, he proved to be Clara's »dearest most loyal companion« and a reliable friend. She praised his Third Symphony gushingly: »What a work, what poetry, the most harmonious mood through the whole, all the movements as if from a single mould, a heartbeat, every movement a jewel!«
