Johann Sebastian Bach: Mass in B minor BWV 232

Philippe Herreweghe, the Collegium Vocale Gent and Johann Sebastian Bach - for over 50 years now, this has been an extremely happy union! No wonder then, that the extensive oeuvre of the Leipzig Thomaskantor is closely intertwined with the glittering reputation that the Belgian conductor and his exceptional ensemble enjoy worldwide. A central pillar of the repertoire is of course the Mass in B minor. Written between 1724 and 1749, it is today one of the most prominent milestones of sacred music and, with its wealth of arias, duets and choruses, one of the highlights of all of Bach's work. The 2021 Musikfest prize laureate and his Collegium Vocale Gent have now recorded this »Mont Blanc of church music« (Franz Liszt) three times. Through decades of intensive study, Herreweghe, with his clear and elegant vision, penetrates the essence of Bach's monumental score like no other and fully explores the dramatic and emotional range of the masterpiece – a memorable experience!
