PLEASE NOTE: CHANGE OF VENUE
BÜRGERMEISTER-SMIDT-GEDÄCHTNISKIRCHE INSTEAD OF TIVOLI

The concert cannot take place in the Tivoli as announced. Contrary to plans, the venue will not be fully repaired by this date in order to fulfill the official requirements for a regular concert. For this reason, the concert will take place on the same day at 8 pm in the Bürgermeister-Smidt-Gedächtniskirche. Tickets already purchased and the seating information on them remain valid!

Programme:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Overture and arias by Sesto and Vitellia from "La clemenza di Tito", Symphony No. 38 in D major KV 504 "Prager"
Joseph Haydn: Scena "Berenice, che fai?" Hob. XXIVa:10

Mozart and Prague, now that was a happy combination! While he constantly struggled with problems in Salzburg and Vienna, the Bohemian capital gave Mozart a warm welcome when he first arrived there in 1787 – bringing his new Symphony No. 38 in D major with him. The residents of Prague were so enthusiastic that they immediately commissioned the composer’s last opera seria »La clemenza di Tito«, which did not just captivate audiences because of the piercing psychological depth of the portrayal of its characters, but also thanks to its brilliant musical arrangement. The intensity of Haydn's great dramatic Scena di Berenice is in no way inferior to Mozart: in an outburst of desperation, the Egyptian princess fears her lover’s suicide. With the French conductor Laurence Equilbey and her period-instrument Insula Orchestra, Mozart and Haydn are in the best of hands. Both moving and invigorating, the elegantly phrased, sharply focused sound Equilbey elicits from her orchestra with seemingly effortless skill forms a perfect harmony with Cecilia Molinari's warm, powerful and colourful mezzo-soprano!
