Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Missa brevis in F major KV 192, Missa brevis in D major KV 194 and »Ave verum corpus« KV 618
alternating with other sacred vocal works by Joseph Haydn and Michael Haydn

The court of the prince-archbishop in Salzburg was considered the most distinguished bishopric in the German-speaking countries. The cultivation of sacred music reached its final cultural heyday in the 18th century, with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Michael Haydn, Joseph's younger brother, both making significant contributions. Hervé Niquet and his Concert Spirituel evoke the deep friendship between these two composers by bringing back to life the musical experience of the holy mass in Salzburg during their lifetime. Hervé Niquet remembers feeling “an incredible feeling of joy” when he sang Mozart's Salzburg Masses as a treble. The program is centred around the carefully structured short masses KV 192 and KV 194, which were composed in 1774 and are regarded as highlights among Mozart's »Youth Masses«. In addition to other compositions by Mozart, they are skilfully interwoven with thematically related sacred vocal works by the Haydn brothers, resulting in a fascinating panorama of Austrian sacred music in the late 18th century.
