Ralph Vaughan Williams: Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis
Fazıl Say: Concerto for trumpet and organ op. 98 (world premiere)
Peteris Vasks: »Musica Dolorosa« for string orchestra
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Serenade for strings in C major op. 48

On 9 September 2021, a very special instrument was welcomed to its new home in Papenburg: the Walcker organ, originally built in 1927 for the Gelsenkirchen town hall. With its 92 stops and 7,262 pipes, it is the largest organ from the Weimar Republic that is still preserved in Germany today – a magnificent specimen. Organist Christian Schmitt and trumpeter Matthias Höfs have already inaugurated it with the Ensemble German Brass. Now they return for the world premiere of Fazıl Say's double concerto for organ and trumpet with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen under the baton of their young, celebrated Principal Guest Conductor Tarmo Peltokoski. Ralph Vaughan Williams promises even more captivating music and echo effects in his Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, while Peteris Vasks wrote his »Musica Dolorosa« in 1983 to process the death of his sister. Ending on an optimistic note, they finish with Tchaikovsky's only string serenade, a glowing homage to Mozart!
