Programme:
Robert Schumann: »Märchenbilder« op. 113

Igor Stravinsky: Divertimento (Suite after the ballet »Le baiser de la fée«)

A musical power couple in a class of its own: Alena Baeva and Vadym Kholodenko. In 2001, the violinist won the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition at the tender age of 16, while the Ukrainian pianist was awarded the gold medal at the Van Cliburn Competition in 2013. As well as performing with the world's leading orchestras, the pair, who have been living in Luxembourg for years, share a passion for chamber music. Rising far above any technical challenges, the duo captivate audiences with their profound musical talent and nuanced interpretations that go straight to the heart with their expressive depth. It’s as if they were made for Franz Schubert's Fantasy in C major, which was written for the »Bohemian Paganini« Josef Slavík and is one of the most beautiful works the composer wrote for these instruments. An equally great stroke of genius is Richard Strauss's only violin sonata, whose virtuosity and colourfulness push all boundaries. In his light-footed Divertimento, Igor Stravinsky, in turn, adapted several piano works and songs by his revered idol Tchaikovsky.
