Programme:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Serenade for winds in B flat major »Gran Partita« KV 361/370a, excerpts from »Le nozze di Figaro« KV 492
For the first time, the Musikfest Bremen presents a guest performance in the Bötjersche Scheune in the centre of the artists' village Worpswede. Built in 1841, the building has now been extensively renovated into an atmospheric event hall with excellent acoustics. The Italian ensemble Zefiro, founded in 1989 by oboist Alfredo Bernardini and named after Zephyr, the god of the western winds, specialises in 18th century wind music. In this repertoire, Mozart pushes all boundaries of the genre with his serenade »Gran Partita« for twelve wind instruments and double bass - a unique gem. Its refined composition and expressive depth as well as its unusually large instrumentation give its sound an almost orchestral splendour. Bernardini has also arranged a best-of from Mozart's opera »Le nozze di Figaro« for the same instruments. By doing this, Zefiro follows the custom of the noble courts of the composer's time, where it was very fashionable for wind ensembles to provide entertainment at banquets and outdoor festivities with excerpts from popular operas!
