Concerto Romano

Founded in 2006 by Alessandro Quarta, Concerto Romano is the first period ensemble to systematically focus on all facets of the Roman Renaissance and High Baroque. The ensemble's triumphant German debut at the Tage Alter Musik in Herne in 2009 was followed by countless invitations to international festivals and venues. Their successful debuts in 2017 at the Aequinox Musiktage, Händel Festspiele in Göttingen and Halle, Thüringer Bachwochen, Boston Early Music Festival, Imago Dei in Krems, Musikfest Bremen, Musikfest Stuttgart, Roma Barocco Festival and in the Great Hall of the Muziekgebow in Amsterdam, 2018 saw concerts at the Teatro Argentina, the Teatro dell'Orso and the Teatro dell'Ors, were followed in 2018 by concerts at the Teatro Argentina, Wiener Konzerthaus (Resonanzen), once more at the Musikfest Bremen and debuts at the Valletta Baroque Festival in Malta, the Vesperali in Lugano and in Florence Cathedral.

The Concerto Romano attach great importance to the particular characteristics of a style linked to Italian culture and singing as well as to the specific qualities that characterise the sound of each musical performance. They aim to highlight those characteristics and differences that connect each repertoire to the physical and social space for which it was conceived and in which it was performed.

The ensemble's CDs on the Christophorus label have been nominated for the German Record Critics' Award and were awarded the Prix Caecilia 2014 and Diapason d'or 2016.
