Thursday , 22.08.24 - 9:00 pm

Programme:
»Komm, süßer Tod – Johann Sebastian Bach«: Music by Johann Sebastian Bach, Heinrich Schütz and Georg Friedrich Händel, Texts by Jean Giono, Iryna Shuvalova, Éric Vuillard, Mathias Énard, Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger e.a.

The Austrian Baritone Georg Nigl already proved himself to be one of the foremost Lied-singers of our time at the Musikfest in 2022. In times of smartphone use increasingly moving our focus to the visual, the singer has now deliberately devised a new intimate chamber-music-like format that, through combining Lied recital with readings, sees itself as a school for listening. The themes revolve around love, loss and farewell, interwoven with moments of hope and consolation. Nigl’s versatile voice, moving effortlessly from softly hushed to fiery and powerful, is accompanied with sensitivity by Alexander Gergelyfi. With his sophisticated touch, the expert in historical keyboard instruments elicits tender, delicate sounds full of subtle nuances from the clavichord, a precursor of the fortepiano. The music is interspersed with selected, mostly contemporary texts, which are recited emphatically by actor Sven-Eric Bechtolf. In the intimate ambience of the Kaminsaal, magic unfolds and you won't want to miss a note of it!
