Joseph Haydn: »The Creation«, oratorio for soloists, choir and orchestra Hob. XXI: 2

Founded in 1783 by the Comte d'Ogny, Le Concert de la Loge Olympique was one of the most legendary orchestras of the late 18th century, based in the Palais Royal in Paris. They went down in music history not least because Haydn's six »Paris Symphonies« were commissioned by them. When violinist and conductor Julien Chauvin decided to revitalise the legendary ensemble as a period instrument orchestra in 2015, it was clear that the exploration of Joseph Haydn would be part of their DNA. Now it is the turn of »The Creation«. Haydn broke with the traditional supremacy of the aria and gave the choir a much greater role. With his epic about the creation of the world, he created the most important contribution to the genre since the death of Handel - and one of the most popular oratorios to date. As they devote themselves to this epochal masterpiece, Julien Chauvin and Le Concert de la Loge explore its wealth of variations and variants down to the finest detail and turn Haydn's Seven Days of Creation into a true experience with their vivid musical language.
